Yesterday I got into a crafty mood, and decided to make my own DIY body scrubs. I have made these before and they turned out really nice, but I have run out, so it was about time I replenished my supply. These are so easy and so much fun to make, and there is an endless list of scents you can make them!
I made up my own recipe and it works great, but you can tweak it to get the texture that you want, depending on if you want it more of a scrub texture, or a smoother, more liquid texture. I prefer the scrub. The nice thing is, it actually does leave your skin so nice and smooth, because of the coconut oil, and smelling nice too, because of the essence.
So here are the results, and the recipe is below.
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup salt
1/4 cup melted coconut oil
1/8 cup olive oil, more or less depending on how you want the texture
-stir the salt and sugar into the melted coconut oil, stir in the olive oil, and the basic scrub is done.
Now for the different scent options, here are a few ideas.
-peppermint: 3 drops of peppermint oil
-creamsicle: 5 drops of orange essence, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, I added 1 drop of yellow food coloring and a half drop of red food coloring to get the fun orange color, the food coloring will not dye your skin. This is optional of course.
-coffee: replace 1/4 cup of the salt with 1/4 cup of coffee grounds
-vanilla cupcake: 1 teaspoon vanilla, 3 drops almond oil, and I ground up some colored sprinkles really fine to add some fun pops of color, these will not dye your skin, so you don’t have to worry about that. Again, this is optional.
-lavender: 2 drops of lavender oil, and you can add in some small pieces of the lavender flower if you wish.
Hope you enjoy! If you do make your own, let me know how they turned out and what scent you made yours!
